ASTORIA — KALA welcomes veteran L.A. music producer and DJ Joey Altruda, Saturday, Dec. 9.

The venue opens from 7 to 8 p.m. for Astoria’s Second Saturday Art Walk and viewing of current artists.

At 8 p.m. Altruda spins vintage vinyl with the emphasis on funk, soul, 60s go-go and the occasional tropical groove. This dance night, billed as “The Later Show,” will be an after party following the Art Walk. The cover is $5.

Altruda has been going strong for the past four decades in esoteric genres as diverse as rockabilly/Americana, jazz/swing, Afro-Cuban, Jamaican ska/Reggae, Brazilian, funk, soul and music for films. His lifelong record collecting is a direct reflection of his musical capabilities as a performer, bandleader and multi-instrumentalist.

Art Walk artists: Paul Soriano, Rene Rowe, Pooka Rice, Anne Eskelin, Bill Atwood, Joi Smith and Sid Deluca.
