ASTORIA — The Barbey Maritime Center hosts classes in October to bring out your crafty side.

Artist Dorota Haber-Lehigh teaches classes on botanical drawing and painting on Tuesdays — Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25 — from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Draw fall fruit, mushrooms, fall leaves, seed pods, branches with lichen and anything else you discover while in nature.

The cost is $50 for museum members, $75 for nonmembers.

And, from Monday, Oct. 15, through Sunday, Oct. 21, instructor Chuck Bollong teaches how to build a pygmy kayak 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This class is offered in conjunction with Pygmy Boats. Participants leave with their kayak approximately 60 percent complete and with the skills necessary to finish their boat at home.

The price is $800, plus the Pygmy kit price.
