ASTORIA — The next Repair Cafe takes place 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 1010 Duane St.

Repair Café is a community of people who repair, sew, sharpen and give expert advice on pretty much anything broken — for free. (No gas engines, please.)

Look for the Repair Cafe Event sidewalk sign on Duane Street on the fourth Wednesday of the month.

Our scales will weigh items to be repaired; our goal is to keep 2,000 pounds of broken items from entering the local landfill.

The November cafe will take place on the 28th, the December cafe on the 19th.
